Octopus Pi is a music company spanning a variety of projects, primarily unique events in independent spaces which emphasise the experience of the audience.
We are also a record label; visit OctopusPiRecords.com
for more.
O/π aims to support unsigned and independent artists, nurture the local underground music scene and provide opportunities to touring artists.
Projects range from events such as Wormwood and the spin-off Wormwoodstock Festival; Whatispsych, the double-12" vinyl compilation featuring eleven Sydney bands and Whyispsych the film-length music clip for the compilation, currently in production.
Octopus Pi is Kimberley Galceran with support from visual and concept collective Optic Soup and a bunch of like-minded, passionate, do-ers.
The emphasis is on fringe music and arts that stimulate.
The emphasis is on the experience.
On this site you'll find everything attributed to O/π events...

Brisbane’s “doom sluggers” No Anchor are coming out after too bloody long, touring their album The Golden Bridge.
It sounds like this and feels like being punched a hundred times mid-orgasm (in this case that is a very good thing).
Supporting them are Making - somehow, always impossibly better than the last time you saw them; Thorax - without a doubt the best doom/punk band in Sydney, and Sour Cream - new doom/psych from members of Zeahorse.
The angry kid inside you will thank you…

Octopus Pi is excited to present an evening of rhythmic intensity and dynamic post-rock - SPARKSPITTER from Adelaide supported by MAKING and GOLDEN BLONDE - in an exciting new space…
“GO SEE THEM”
- The Scenery
“Formed from members of Adelaide pro-ballers Encarta, Thunderclaw, Strega, Oh My Guard, and Bronze Chariot, SPARKSPITTER have been sheering through the Adelaide music scene with a courageously original brand of catchy, math-infected, instrumental art-pop.
Having played alongside such acclaimed artists as Prince Rama (USA), Gold Panda (UK), Thee Oh Sees (USA), Love of Diagrams, Charge Group, Steering By Stars, Tiny Spiders, Coerce, Making and Civil Civic; performed at Fringe, Lost City, and Ocean Graves festivals; toured through Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore; and made appearances on Triple J and local radio stations throughout Australia and South-East Asia, SPARKSPITTER’s band trajectory, like their music, really does appear to harness some sort of cosmic energy.”

Back from their recent European tour, Scattered Order are launching the album Planet Scrape with us on April 12th.
If you don’t know the history of this band do a little research, Scattered Order are easily one of the noisiest and most intense groups to come out of Sydney since they formed in 1979. Pioneering is an understatement.
With Pimmon, Nhomea and Dead China Doll in support this gig will be devastating in the best of ways.

Yet another project on the cards for Octopus Pi & Optic Soup…
WHAT-? WHY-?
Along with our sister-collective Optic Soup, some film-making friends, a lighting genius, all the bands and YOU we’re going to make a ‘filmtrack’ for the WHATISPSYCH compilation.
WHYISPSYCH will span the compilation from start to finish and feature live footage mixed with Optic Soup visuals. We’re going to transform The Red Rattler with lighting, decor and projections like you’ve never seen. Each band will have their own concept and the audience will play a big part in the magic!
Join us on Saturday February 23rd from 8pm as we film:

It’s been one year since the Wormwoodstock Festival and we’re remembering it fondly with some of the best footage taken by film-maker Tony Lawrence. Rumour has it Wormwoodstock will return in early 2014…
Wormwoodstock was a festival held 27th - 29th January 2 hours from Sydney in the Southern Highlands, featuring over 40 DIY acts from across Australia performing psychedelic, experimental or electronic music and everything in-between. Over 350 peopl came to enjoy a weekend with mind-blowing bands and brain-tripping visuals. Wormwoodstock is a spin-off festival from the regular Sydney night Wormwood :: absinthe & psychedelia, curated by Octopus Pi.
Here are some clips of Dead China Doll and East River playing the WHATISPSYCH launch on December 14th. Nick Hollins of Skydreams is putting together footage and interviews for a WHATISPSYCH short-doco out very soon!
More at Skydreams.com.au…

ALL the bands from the compilation will be celebrating it’s release with a two-night launch, if you like what you hear then witness it in the flesh…
